This Thursday, 23 November, held in the famous pastry shop Meert in Lille, the press conference for the kick off of the ATP Challenger tournament, managed by Tennis Club Lillois Lille Métropole from 19 to 25 March 2018.

It is inside the famous brand of Esquermoise street that the tournament management team came together to officially announce the launching of an ATP Challenger in Lille. In front of a lot of media, which massively came for the occasion, but also several major tennis leaders in France, with especially Bernard Giudicelli, President of French Tennis Federation, Henri Magniant – Vice President of Tournament Organisation Committee – first made a short history of the tournament, which has been the witness of some great worldwide champions, such as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, winner in 2006, but also Steve Darcis and Karen Khachanov, at a time when the tournament was still belonging to « Futures » ITF Tour.

Moving up into « Challengers », Tennis Club Lillois Lille Métropole so makes its event evolve, which will give rise to a more competitive lineup, more top players, as well as a more professional organisation.

The first edition of this ATP Challenger (50 000 $ + H) will so occur from 19 to 25 March 2018, inside Tennis Club Lillois Lille Métropole’s facilities, with strong support of Métropole Européenne de Lille, Ville de Lille, Département du Nord and Région Hauts de France, as well as all corporate sponsors of the Club.

Bernard Giudicelli was particularly excited: « I am delighted to have one more Challenger in France. Our high level players need to play Challengers. This tournament will be the opportunity to encourage meeting between Club’s managers, the public, and volunteers. It will be the first ambition of this challenger. »

But the most expected moment of this press conference was above all the new name of the tournament and its logo. With Play In Challenger, it is a really modern, dynamic and innovating name which was chosen, and which should offer us some nice surprises regarding schedule and events!

That should make tennis fans delighted, who will be, for sure, massively present in Tennis Club Lillois Lille Métropole next March to attend the most significant professional tennis tournament in the North of Paris!
