After a fantastic final, which met all people’s expectations, French player captured the second edition of Play In Challenger, upsetting in 3 sets German Yannick Maden. He so makes a back to back.
Audience was very large in this Sunday afternoon. Indeed, more than 1 000 people came to Tennis Club Lillois Lille Métropole to attend the final of Play In Challenger. And they did not have to regret it!
The French player started very strong and imposed his game, with a lot of strength and acceleration. Winning points were numerous, and his opponent could not do a lot of things. But German player was fighting, and hit the ball stronger and faster as of the beginning of the second set. After rapidly performing a break, he kept his serve all along the set to some back to 1 set all.
In a dramatic 3rd set, atmosphere came up, and each player won his serve. At 5/4 for the French, two unforced errors of Yannick Maden placed Grégoire Barrère in a good position. With the help of the audience, and after a last winning point, Grégoire Barrère eventually concluded, in a meeting which will have met spectators’ expectations, from the first to the last ball.
In his speech, the winner did not forget to mention the very good organization of the tournament, and thanked the public, which was very numerous all along the week to cheer him up. Even if he would always be happy to come back to Lille next year, he hopes of course to be in Masters 1000 of Miami…this is all we can hope for him !
A bit sooner in the afternoon, another last year winner also kept his title: Hugo Nys, who captured the crown in double with his partner from Monaco Romain Arneodo. They upset the French – Israeli team Fabrice Martin/Jonathan Erlich, after a very tough and spectacular match!
